Pregnancy Week 18

I have nothing positive to say about this week. Poor Ty and Meg have been sick. Like, sick, sick. Shawn has been working a ton so it has left me begging my mother in law and sister in law for help. I am hoping next week will be better.

Pregnancy: Week 18

Sleep: Two sick kids…that’s all

Gender: Team Green

Name: No ready to say but we have decided…I think

Feeling: Tired, sick, lazy, achy

Health: Not great…since the kids have been sick, I have not been taking care of myself like I should. Yesterday, I collapsed into my bed after work and napped for 45 minutes.

Movement: Maybe a little?

Belly: Shawn says I am showing. I can still fit into regular pants but prefer maternity because I think they make me look more pregnant. And, of course, comfort.

Next Appointment: The BIG ultrasound/anatomy scan is scheduled for February 13. I am taking the day off!

Checking In

Today schools were closed because of the cold temperatures. I love being home with my kids, but I am over it. I have so much to do at school that each passing day that we do not go in I run further and further behind, I have deadlines that need to be met, and I am starting to feel like a big fat failure. This is part of my anxiety issues that I just have to work through, but, geesh, can we get a break here?

In other pressing news, I probably would not have gone into work anyway today because Tyler is now sick. I had him into the doctor this evening and he has double ear infections and an upper respiratory infection. The child is a mess and all he wants me to do is hold him. So, I held him for about 8 hours today. Currently, he is sleeping. Thank goodness. The poor kid is a mess.

That is really all for today. I would like to be able to get to the gym this week, but with a sick baby and Shawn working the opposite schedule, that is not likely. Life, I tell ya.

Have a good evening. Hopefully, I will be more positive the next time I write.

Weekend in Review

Do you ever watch Toy Story? I feel like I have seen all three of them a million times. It has to be the #1 movie to watch in our household. In fact, Megan’s 3rd birthday had a Toy Story theme and four months later Tyler’s 2nd birthday had the same. Different cakes, same theme.

Sometimes I think about all the toys that are sitting around our house and it absolutely drives me crazy. I have purged a great deal of toys over the last month, but we still have tons of them. The problem is, my kids DO play with all of their toys. Like, all the time. So, I really can’t purge any more.

Well, that was a ramble if I ever wrote one.

My weekend started out with this…

And then, this…

She is fine now, just some lung issues that we needed to attend to.

By Saturday morning, Megan was ready to attend the first of two weekend birthday parties. The first was for a boy in her pre-school class who I really don’t know. Being a working mom, I have only done one drop off and pick up this year, so my interaction with the children in her class is very limited. I thought she would want me to stay, but when we arrived at the party she looked at me and said, “Mommy you can go now.” And, there it was. My baby has grown up, right before my eyes. How did this happen?

I wish I could say I did something fun while she was there, but I had some work to do for my class. Off to Barnes and Nobel I went with some intimate time with EDRE 672. I have to be honest, it was nice to have the time. My mom was with Tyler (Shawn worked the night before), Megan was at the party so my mind was free of worry. Oh, and I did get to stop by Old Navy, next door, and check out the clearance section. I possibly might have purchased a couple of things at 50% off.

I wish I had taken a picture of how darling Megan looked at the party. My mom bought her a new dress from H&M and it is a winner. I am sure she will wear the same dress a million times this spring. She was cute. And, the mom sent me an e-mail about how polite and sweet Megan was. Melt my heart.

Other than that we did a lot of just hanging out. The weather has been absolutely gross here, so there is not much to do except hang. Also, both kids are not feeling great and I am starting to feel a cold coming on, so it is best to stay in.

Picture proof…Tyler is feeling horrible today.

We might be in for even more horrible weather tomorrow. UUUUGGGGHHHH!

How is your week starting out?

Pregnancy Week 17

This week has flown by. Megan has been sick for a few days so it seems all of my energy has gone into making her comfortable. Week 16 is like a blur.
I did decide this week that we are going to get a new travel system for our new little one. Our original Eddie Bauer stroller has been awesome the last four years. It has withstood the test of time. However, bringing it to Disney World and having both kids sit in it (together) really gave it a beating. I don’t even think I could consign it. Also, since the pumpkin seat is four years old it is reaching its expiration. I am going to try and find a similar Eddie Bauer stroller because I would like to still be able to use the two extra bases we have. There are a couple that I like and I might register for one since we could use the discount after my due date.
Shawn pointed out that this was the first time I actually brought up something about the baby. Believe me, I think about this precious little one every moment of every day, but I am just so overwhelmed with life. We never get to talk about anything, let alone the baby. We need a date night. Like, bad.

Pregnancy: 17 weeks

Sleep: I have been up every day at 4am and not able to get back to sleep. Obviously, the relaxation techniques have not been working.

Gender: Team Green

Name: I am pretty sure we are getting close, but since we are TEAM GREEN I feel like I have all the time in the world.

Feeling: This has been a great week. Only one vomiting episode. YAY for me!

Health: Feeling good. I was able to get 4 work-outs in this week. Victory.

Movement: No movement. I am starting to think I might have an anterior placenta like I did with Megan

Belly: I think I look smaller this week. How does that happen?

Next Appointment: The BIG ultrasound/anatomy scan is scheduled for February 13. I am taking the day off!

Thoughts on a Thursday

Thoughts on a Thursday…Let’s be honest, I LOVE LISTS, so it will always be in list form

1.I have to get working on Tyler’s baby book. I feel like a horrible mother for not having it completed. Megan’s is so adorable, but I have just had such a hard time getting Tyler’s started. I think it has a lot to do with his birth being so close to my dad’s death. Ugh. I need to finish start it.
2.Megan has two birthday parties this weekend. Miss Popularity, I tell you. I am excited about it.
3.We (Shawn) mounted our TV above the fireplace. It has totally changed the look of our room. It was phase #1 of a pretty big room make-over that will be happening over the next few months. I am bursting with happiness about it!
4.I love purging things. Throwing things away/giving extras to charity is one of my favorite past times.
5.Purging can bite you in the ass when you have a surprise pregnancy #3.
6.Being a teacher is the greatest job I could ever ask for. I feel so privileged to be have my job.
7.Continuing education to keep up my teaching license is the worst part of my job (oh, and IEP meetings).
8.My favorite week of the year is next week. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK. I am in charge of the committee this year and it has been awesome to plan fun stuff.
9.Girls night tomorrow night. Enough said.
10.I am ready for Spring (along with the rest of the country, I am sure)

Weekend Update…Operation Dodge Cabin Fever

Well, it continues to be the weekend here in Loveland, OH. Yes, you guessed it…another SNOW DAY! I have mixed feelings about it because there is so much to do at school, but I am thrilled to spend another day with my little munchkins. Megan woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible cough and awkward breathing (we almost got dressed to go the ER) so it was nice to have a bit of time to sleep in this morning too. Don’t worry, Miss M is fine this morning. I think she just has a head cold.

Thisweekend was a mix of a lot of lounging and a a lot of moving. Friday night we hung out as a family of four and ordered take-out from Outback. Our favorite. On Saturday I let Shawn sleep in and we headed to the gym. Megan loves Kid Fit class so we made it just in time for her to participate. I was able to get three and a half miles in the the treadmill.

When we got home Megan spent the rest of the day with a couple of the neighborhood girls. We are blessed to live in an awesome neighborhood full of little kids. It is not uncommon in the summer to have fifteen kids ages two to eight in our back park. I love the kids and I adore their moms. We are all different but have similar values which makes it a great community.

After a day of playing the girls, of course, scammed me into hosting a sleepover. It was impromptu and so much fun. I made cupcakes and let the girls (and Tyler) decorate them. They had a blast.

Then it was play play play the rest of the night. At 10:30 I forced them into bed and they giggled for an hour. So sweet. By midnight they were done.

In the morning we had time for quick manicures before the ladies went home and we got dressed and headed to church.

Later that day we headed to the “big gym” and the kids played while we worked out. When we were leaving we realized the rock wall was open. After signing my life away the kids gave it a try.

Needlesstosay, they loved it. We all be back…especially because it is free! Gotta love free activities at the good old YMCA.
Also, the kids were exhausted when we got home and promptly went to bed at 6:00 and did not make a peep all night. Shawn was working so I felt like I was on vacation…I watched HGTV without interruption, ate a bowl of ice cream, and enjoyed the calm.

Yesterday we were back at the gym in the morning and I was able to participate in Muscle Max which I love. I have not been able to get to a class since the summer so it felt good to be back. Boy, am I sore this morning.
In the afternoon we did another fun free activity.

Swimming for the win!

Today we are going to relax. I probably will not go anywhere since Megan is a little under the weather.

What activities does your family do to cure cabin fever?

Pregnancy Week 16

20140120-073040.jpgMaybe my face will look normal by week 40!

Sorry this is late…my Internet has been wonky since Friday. I am sure it is snow related.

wanted to talk for a few minutes about this pregnancy. First of all, I want to make this very clear, I always wanted three kids. When I dreamed about my life and my future there were always three children in my dreams. I never thought this pregnancy would happen and I am so thrilled that it did. From the moment I saw two pink lines I was in love in a very real way.

I don’t know if it is because I am officially “advanced maternal age” or if I am just older, wiser and more experienced, but I am worried constantly during the course of the last 16 weeks. I can’t stop. During the day, the middle of the night, when I am at dinner, when I am exercising…you name the time and I am worried about him/her. It is almost obsessive. I spoke with my doctor about it at my last appointment and he suggested a few things to try to wein the anxiety, but I am not sure it is going to work.

I guess I will just be a nervous wreck until June.

Okay, on this the good stuff…

Pregnancy: 16 weeks

Sleep: I am so tired every single day that I fall right into bed about 2 minutes after I put my little ones down.

Gender: Team Green

Name: I don’t know if we will ever be able to decide

Feeling: No Bueno. I cannot shake the morning sickness…maybe trimester three will be the ticket.

Health: I feel good. I was just talking to a friend about how I am not as tired this time around. She pointed out that since I was working hard on getting in shape prior to conceiving and I am still working out that it is helping greatly with fatigue.

Movement: I felt a flutter the night before my appointment. I think the baby was trying to tell me to stop stressing.

Belly: Not sure there is much of a change…I guess it depends on what I wear.

Next Appointment: The BIG ultrasound/anatomy scan is scheduled for February 13.

Thoughts on a Thursday

Thoughts on a Thursday (in list form):
1. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy, day by day, little by little.
2. I love wearing my hair in a bun but my 2:00 pm my head is KILLING me!
3. Last Sunday I made the most awesome crab-corn chowder. I wish I had written down my recipe.
4. When Tyler enters a room, he puts his hands on his hips and yells, “dun-dun-dun” and I laugh every.single.time.
5. I had a surprise ultrasound yesterday. It never gets old seeing the baby in your tummy. Never.
6. Tonight I am a “guest griller” at BD Mongolian BBQ. Super excited about it.
7. I feel super trendy and super cute today. My students have noticed my effort.
8. Packing a lunch is my most annoying task of the day. I hate packing because by 12:45 I do not want what I packed.
9. I wish my husband and I could have a date night, but that just never seems to happen.
10. I am tired of the snow. That’s all.

On Over Committing

I have always been a “yes” person. I can remember as far back as grade school that I was always the one to say “yes” to everything. Need a baked good, my mom can do it…need an extra person in the children’s choir, I am there…Service club, okay, youth group, great…I think I will try track or the musical or basketball…soccer might be fun…I love dance, I love piano, I love tennis. The list could good on and on.

As an adult, I seem to have fallen into the same pattern. I am asked to do a lot and I do it. I love being busy, I thrive on being part of a team, and, let’s face it, I like to be recognized as a person that others can count on.

When it comes to my kids, I want them to be involved in activities and fun stuff, but I also want to manage their time and my time. Right now, Megan is involved in two extra-curricular; tennis and dance. They are very manageable because they are one day a week and are convenient to our home. She loves them and I think she is learning coordination, working with a team, and listening skills. Tyler is too young to be involved right now, but he is my sidekick in the waiting room.

I fear that over commitment is going to take over my family this spring…

Shawn signed Megan up for soccer and Tyler up for baseball. The baseball I am not so concerned about since it is only going to be on Saturday for an hour. The soccer I think is going to be twice a week. This would be fine except for the fact that Megan is already committed to tennis and tap through the spring. So, if you are counting, that means Meg will be committed to four days a week and Tyler one day a week. FIVE DAYS A WEEK, PEOPLE!!!!

I don’t know how many of you are aware of this, but the majority of the week I am on my own! Shawn works a twelve hour shift starting at 5pm so all evening activities fall on me. I AM ALREADY STARTING TO FREAK OUT. Not to mention that I will be in my third trimester at this point.

I want my kids to be involved and a part of a team. I would like them to be social and have people skills. I do not want to be pulling my hair out in order to accomplish these things. I can see this is the start of a very elaborate calendar that my family is going to have to keep. I know that it will only get more difficult from here.

Veteran parents…how do you manage the “over commitment” trap?

Pregnancy Week 15

It has been a pretty good week, pregnancy-wise. Nothing too atypical to report. Last night I went to bed at 7:30 with the kids. No big deal…i deserve it, right?
I did head back to the gym after a LONG hiatus (like 6 weeks off) and I felt great about that. I am not making any fitness goals per say, but I would like to stay active and try and make it to the gym at least 2-3 days a week. Shawn is also starting a fitness regimen and a new routine at work, so we might be able to be fitness buddies!
I must say, I have been really worried about the baby since my illness and subsequent antibiotics last week. I was assured that it was the safest route for me to go, but it has been on my mind. I am looking forward to my appointment next week and hearing the heartbeat and making sure everything is okay with this little one.
Also, I have not been as tired with this pregnancy as I was in the past. Especially when I was pregnant with Tyler I was exhausted ALL.THE.TIME. Maybe my body is just used to being pregnant or something. Or maybe I am taking things a little more easy than I have in the past.

Pregnancy: 15 weeks

Sleep: Much better this week. A couple of nights I even dodged the 2am potty break.

Gender: Team Green and super excited about it!

Name: They change daily.

Feeling: Morning sickness (all day sickness) seems to be back in full-force this week. I had one really bad episode on Wednesday but I think I have decided to give up salads all together…they do nothing for me except make me feel pukey!

Health: I am still bothered by a slightly sore throat and plugged ears. Nothing I can’t tolerate, but I would love to feel better in the very near future.

Movement: Nothing. But I did ready in my pregnancy journal from Megan that I did not feel movement until 26 weeks, so I still might have a long time to wait.

Belly: No changes this week.

Next Appointment: Wednesday, January 15. I believe this is when I will schedule the anatomy scan as well.
