Pregnancy Week 26

20140329-205150.jpg Yes, a dress two weeks in a row. I know.

This has been a crazy week and I have had very little sleep. But. I am feeling good. Shawn and I even came up with a plan for the nursery. So fun.
Can we talk about the fact that I am officially in the third trimester? In three short months I will be holding this bundle of joy in my arms. Today was the first day a stranger made a comment about my pregnancy. I take that as a good sign. My belly is starting to get out of control. I am embracing it!

Pregnancy: Week 26

Sleep: Just terrible

Gender: Team Green

Name: Both names begin with the letter “R” but I am still toying with a few different girl names.

Feeling: Like this pregnancy is flying by. I want to really enjoy the next three months,

Health: I believe regular exercise has kept me feeling great this pregnancy

Movement: This little one is a kicker.

Belly: The sales lady at Target definitely noticed with confidence. My belly is getting huge!

Next Appointment: April 10th for the gestational diabetes screening and whooping cough vaccine

Into It and Over It

Have you watched “The Kitchen”?
It is a new show on Saturday mornings on Food TV and I am really loving it. I guess it is sort of similar to “The Chew” on ABC but it is only once a week which is manageable for me. The hosts are Sunny Anderson, Katie Lee, Jeff Mauro, Marcela Valladolid and Geoffrey Zakarian. I love Katie Lee when she used to host “Top Chef” so I am glad to see her on this show. I also have always enjoyed “The Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro. The rest of the crew is great too. It is set on my DVR and I usually watch it on Sunday morning when everyone else in my house is asleep (or when I have insomnia) before we have to get ready for church.

Anyway, they have a segment every week which I love called “Into it and Over it” where they talk about trends that they really like (into it) or that they are over (over it). I think this is a fun concept, so I thought I would try it myself. These are not really kitchen trends but just things in general.

Without further ado, here are my picks for right now, today:

Into it:
•Buttercream icing. I love it. I would eat icing over cake any day of the week…however, it is an Opera Cream Cake I could eat it all and all the time.
•Generosity with words. I love a nice thank you note or a hand written sentiment. I do not think e-mailing or texting will ever replace good old fashioned notes.
•Exercise. I have really been into exercising this month. I think it has a lot to do with the Ironman March goals (which are about to be completed this weekend!!!). I also think I just feel better when I move.
Over it:
•People who do not pull their weight. It is annoying to me, especially in the workplace, that people cannot or will not share in the load and responsibility. I am tired of covering for people. Completely over it.
•Leggings as pants. If you do not cover your butt with the shirt you are wearing, then you should not be wearing leggings.
•Bloggers who claim they work when they are really a stay-at-home mom. Own it. You do not work. You have the hardest job in the world (raising kids). You do not need to justify your decision to stay at home.

Have a great weekend! I am hoping to relax a bit.

Happy Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday. It has been a great day. It started out with coffee and Munchkins and proceeded to be followed by cake, cake, and more cake!

My husband was really good to me and the kids sang me “Happy Birthday” on the way to work. Pretty much every class I saw today said nice things and sang to me. Many of my kids in my Homeroom wrote me personal letters and cards that touched me more than they will ever know.

I love celebrating birthdays, no matter how old I get and no matter wise birthday it is. I think people need to be celebrated just because they were called by name an placed on this Earth.

Life is good. Very good. I feel blessed today more than ever.

And, guess how I celebrated personally…

With 1700 yards in the pool! I ended the swim portion of Ironman March with a bang and a small celebration of ME in the pool. I am declaring this year my “Year of Fitness.” I have some goals that I arm not ready to share right at this moment, but just note that by the time my birthday rolls around next year I am looking to be better.

We will finish today much like any other Wednesday, with tap class and a quick trip through Wendy’s drive thru.

It has been a great day to celebrate and I am ready to move forward!

Ironman March Week #3

Well, this was a really good week for me.  I am so glad I got back on track after my disastrous week last week.  I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.  I know I will be finishing my walk/jogging miles this week (in fact, I only have one mile left!) and I think I am going to try and finish up the swim this week as well, which just leaves me with a ton of biking miles to do in the next week and a half.

I have really begun to loathe the bike.  I don’t know if it is because I have done all my bike miles inside, or maybe the bike isn’t adjusted to my needs, or maybe it is the added pressure “down there” with pregnancy…but the bike has definitely been the toughest for me to get into.  By about 7 miles I am wrecked.  The other day I pushed to 15 miles and thought I was going to die…not from fatigue, but from boredom and sitting too long.    I don’t understand it, really, I can walk/jog on that treadmill all day long and never bore.  I am watching the same show (House of Cards) while doing both activities, but I just hate the bike.  Hate it.

So, here are the deets:

Day #1                  6 miles (bike) 3 miles (jog/walk)
Day #2                  1250 yards (swim)
Day #3                  7 miles (bike) 3 miles (jog/walk)
Day #4                  7 miles (bike) 1 mile (jog/walk)

I stole this from Beth’s Blog.  She is funny.  You should read it!

On a side note, is anyone watching The Good Wife?  OMGee…shock the heck out of me!!!!  That show gets better and better.  It might be my favorite right now!!!!!

Finally, Shawn may have found the perfect solution to potty training Tyler…Batman training pants…I need to take pictures ASAP.  Genius!  Hopefully this will be the push he needs to get on that potty.  God help me!

Swimming for the Win!

Last night we went swimming.
Swimming is not a normal Thursday activity for us, I mean, I am a working mom and not a miracle worker and our time is precious in the evenings and I am tired, oh so tired. All the time. But I had a two-fold reason for choosing to go last night: 1) I needed to get some swimming yardage in for Ironman March and I knew I would not want to do it Friday night. Also, the big gym has a great childcare area where the kids can run around and play basketball with other kids, and they always have fun.
2) My kids really LOVE LOVE LOVE to swim and they were looking forward to it because I had mentioned it to them (I am a sucker like that).

The worst part about going swimming in the indoor pool in the wintertime with two kiddos by yourself are the transitions. Getting everything packed to go (and remembering what to pack), getting them changed out of their street clothes and into swimsuit, and the worst, the most difficult, is getting them undressed from swimsuits, in the shower, hair washed, into pajamas and into the car…it is miserable. So many times we have all ended up in tears with this and I have felt like a horrible failure as a mother. So many times I have claimed “NEVER AGAIN” but I go back to it (glutton for punishment). We really love the pool, and I love doing active things with my kids that do not involve the iPad or Disney Junior. I want them to remember that while I was strict and made them eat their veggies, I was also fun and carefree and loved being with them.

I think this is the 12th time I have taken them swimming this winter and I finally have some semblance of a method to follow. Yesterday’s transitions were the best yet. I was proud of myself and proud of them. There were no tears and I even remembered to pack all the essentials…you know, clean underwear, diapers, and fresh pajamas (for all of us J).

We celebrated with Wendy’s for dinner, but this happened before we even made it home.

I would call that a successful day at the pool.

Pregnancy Week 25

20140320-203257.jpgYes, I wore a dress…I am, indeed, fancy!

I am into the single digits. As of today I have 98 days left in this pregnancy give or take.
First trimester went by so slow and now it seems like I cannot slow things down enough. My days are flying by; this is expected because as a teacher the Spring always is quick.
I feel like we have nothing ready to go and nothing planned. It is weird. With both Megan and Tyler I felt this huge time crunch, but this time I am not worried about things. As long as the crib is up, the car seat is installed and I have a bouncer by the time the first contraction hits, we will be a-okay.
I could write so many posts about the difference in preparing for baby #1, #2, and now #3. But, the fact of the matter is, no matter what # you are on, the baby will come and as long as you have lots of love in your heart everything will be fine.

Things I am looking forward to in the next couple of weeks:
1. My birthday is next Wednesday. I love birthdays no matter how old I get!
2. A weekend with most of my BFF’s…lunch, manicure and pedicure, hotel check-in, eating, hanging out, getting a full night’s rest~ yes, please!
3. Our school musical is in two weeks. I am ready to not have to practice (I teach the tap dance numbers). It is getting tiring and stressful and I will be glad to have it off my plate.
4. Spring Break in three weeks. If only I was going someplace fun!
5. My class at XU ends on May 6th. I know it is more than a month away, but I have finished all but one assignment, so I am ready to check it off the list.
6. SPRING WEATHER…God help us! We need some blooming flowers and walks in the park!

Now on to the good stuff:
Pregnancy: Week 25

Sleep: I will never sleep again…except for the night of April 5th.

Gender: Team Green

Name: Both names begin with the letter “R” but I am still toying with a few different girl names.

Feeling: I have been feeling much more positive this week than I have in a long time. I am taking each day as it comes and counting my blessings.

Health: Felling really good. I can tell my hips are starting to spread, but other than that all if well.

Movement: This little one is a kicker.

Belly: A couple of strangers have noticed. I’ll take it!

Next Appointment: April 10th for the gestational diabetes screening and whooping cough vaccine

Wednesday Amnesia

Is it bad that it is only Wednesday and I can’t remember a thing I accomplished this weekend? Oh, it is coming back to me now…

It was a beautiful weekend. My dear, sweet students were confirmed in the Catholic Church on Saturday. No matter how many times I participate in this ceremony, I love it more and more. I also cry more and more but that could be hormones. I was a sponsor this year for the first time and it was an incredible experience. I love that I am now forever a part of Veronica’s spiritual journey. I will be taking this role very seriously. I hope I can live up to the expectations I have for myself.

After the ceremony I was privileged to spend time with Veronica and her family. I had the most amazing food and conversation. I spent a lot of time with her 90 year old great grandmother. I love speaking with elders…especially when they are so smart and witty and full of great, seasoned advice. It was a wonderful afternoon. My mom babysat so I felt like I could take my time and soak everything in. What a great day!

Since I fulfilled my Sunday mass obligation on Saturday and my mom was in town, I was able to sleep in until 9am on Sunday morning. I cannot remember when that has happened. It was glorious. Simply glorious. The rest of Sunday was spent at tennis and then hanging out at home. I was lazy, but did manage to play, unload the dishwasher, load and fold two loads of laundry and cook dinner.
It might have been a perfect weekend. Here are some snap shots…
