Why Yes, I Did Have a Baby!

Last time I posted I had said that I would follow with a birth announcement. I am pleased that sit has only taken me a week to sit down and write this all out. At my last appointment on Monday, June 16 the doctor did a quick assessment and it was then decided that I needed an eviction notice. The baby was feeling huge, my fluid levels were consistent with gestational diabetes and it was difficult to walk. June 19 would be the date unless I went into natural labor on my own between then.

So, I did what any hugely pregnant person would do…I planned a last hurrah to Soak City with my family of four!

By Wednesday I was feeling ready to go…cramping, uncomfortable, irritable, hormonal, everything consistent with labor being eminent. We went to dinner with my mom and the kids and I got all my last minute things ready go for an early hospital visit in the morning.

We arrived at the hospital around 5:45 am and the check-in process went smoothly. By 6 am I was in a room and everything began to move. There was a bit of an issue with the fluid levels being so high that they could not detect if the baby’s head was down so I had one more ultrasound to assure baby was ready. After the IV was placed and monitors were set I was given Pitocin around 8am.

I sent Shawn down to the cafe for breakfast and no sooner did he leave that my water broke naturally. Now, when I say my water broke please imagine enough water to fill a baby pool easily. I have never in my life felt anything like it and the water kept coming and coming and coming until I delivered. I kept saying it was a jacuzzi up in there!

Everything went well throughout the morning and my mom and Shawn’s mom and the kids came in around 12:30. At the at point I had had the epidural and was feeling pretty good. I was checked right before they came in and I was 5cm dilated and 80% effaced. So, I sent the family to lunch. I figured I had at least 4 hours.

20 minutes later I was feeling such extreme pressure that I called the nurse for another check. Sure enough, I was 10 cm and fully ready. She called the doctor. I called Shawn. It was show time.

Ryan Robert was born at 1:50 pm. He was beautiful. Love at first sight. I couldn’t stop crying. It really was a lovely birth. Ryan is a big boy…10 pound 15 ounces, 23.5 inches long.

Lots of drama ensured and Ryan spent the night in the Special Care Nursery, but things are fine now and we think he is just perfect!

I am feeling good and hope to be back ith a first week update soon.

I’m Having a Baby

20140618-211539.jpg
Today is my last official day pregnant. If I do not go into labor tonight then I will be induced in the morning, a large baby and extra large amounts of fluid made the decision easy for my my doctor. I have mixed emotions. It is such a gift to be pregnant and feel that baby inside my belly on the daily. What a miracle. But, it is even better to hold that precious gift on the outside, and share him/her with the world.

I could write a whole post about being team green this time around, but time is fleeting. I will just say it has been a fun little game we have played. I can say with certainty that I believe this baby is a boy, but if the baby is a girl I will be just as thrilled…shocked, but absolutely over the moon. I honestly can say the sex of the baby does not matter to me one bit. I just want a healthy outside baby.

I don’t know if there will be another baby after this one. It makes me kind of sad to think this stage of my life might be over tomorrow. But, I am excited for the future of our family, our party of five.

Next time I post will be a birth announcement. I can’t wait!

Pregnancy Week 37

20140612-181144.jpg38 weeks pregnant and still smiling

I am 38 weeks pregnant today so it is time to do my 37 week update. Sometimes I feel like time is moving so slow and other times I feel like the weeks are flying by. With school coming to a close this week it has been easier to take a step back and relax a little more. I had a doctors appointment this afternoon. As expected the growth ultrasound showed a very large baby with an insane amount of fluid around him/her, I’m talking double what is needed. No wonder I feel so heavy down there. My next appointment is Monday and we are going to seriously talk induction for later next week. Who knows, maybe we will have another outside baby this time next week! So exciting.

On with the good stuff:

Pregnancy: Week 37

Sleep: Sleep sucks, pain and simple. I am most uncomfortable laying down.

Gender: Team Green

Name: Rachel for a girl, Ryan for a boy…middle names are still in the works. I know this deserves it own post, but, let’s be honest, it probably won’t happen.

Feeling: Super full and heavy but happy and excited about having a little bambino soon.

Health: Very good. Blood pressure is great and I have more energy then I have had in a while…I even walked around KI for 7 hours Tuesday.

Movement: The baby’s feet move from one side of my belly to the other all day long…alien experience for reals.

Belly: I am tired of people I know and complete strangers telling me my belly is huge. It is not a compliment and kind of annoying…no need to state the obvious. I have had several people ask if I am having twins. Uh, no.

Next Appointment: June 16 or sooner…there is a full moon tonight!

I’m on VACATION!!!!!

I have said so many times before how much I love my job. I work at the best place with the greatest students and collaborative co-workers. But, the thing I love best about my job is the three month hiatus every summer. Ever since becoming a mom and dropping my summer second job I have loved filling my days with a slower pace, less productive but way more fun experience.

Although summer just started for me in Tuesday, I have taken advantage of slow mornings, grilled dinners and everything in between.

A Surprise for the Mom to Be

20140606-090555.jpg

Shawn had a surprise baby shower for me last weekend and the only picture I have is this dark, kind of crappy one of the cake. But, believe me there was nothing dark or crappy about that day.

We had t-ball the morning…

And Megan’s tap recital in the evening…

So, needlesstosay, I was caught totally off guard. It was wonderful. So many people came out to celebrate this new precious life of ours. Shawn really out did himself with games and food and just so much fun.

I felt so loved!

Pregnancy Week 36

20140605-172305.jpgWhy, yes, I am fancy. Thanks for asking! #8thgradegraduation

This was my last week of work for the summer. I am so happy it is over. It has been a good year but a tough one. I have never been so happy to see a school year end. I love my job, I love my students…but sometimes when you are done you are done.
I received many beautiful heart-felt cards from my students as well as some really nice gifts. My Homeroom also threw me a cute baby shower on Monday afternoon. Too adorable.

I am starting to get that heavy feeling in my lower belly/pelvis. It is getting a little difficult to walk. But I am not ready to deliver a baby yet.

Pregnancy: Week 36

Sleep: I had the BEST sleep last night…7 hours of pure bliss!

Gender: Team Green

Name: Rachel for a girl, Ryan for a boy…middle names are still in the works. I know this deserves it own post, but, let’s be honest, it probably won’t happen.

Feeling: like I might have a baby in a few weeks!

Health: Very good. Blood pressure is great and I have more energy then I have had in a while.

Movement: The baby’s feet move from one side of my belly to the other all day long.

Belly: I am tired of people I know and complete strangers telling me my belly is huge. It is not a compliment and kind of annoying…no need to state the obvious.

Next Appointment: June 12 for another growth ultrasound and to see what my options are. If I make it all the way to June 26 everyone in the world will be surprised.

Pregnancy Week 35

Another whirlwind week for the books. I have been feeling great, spending a lot of time at the pool and just having fun with my family. On Saturday, Shawn threw me a surprise shower which was so wonderful and, well, surprising. I will (hopefully) recap this awesome day in a real post this week. Let’s just say I have an amazing family, the best friends, and my support system is incredible.

20140602-070347.jpgWhy, yes, my hair is wet in a bun, I have no make-up on and I am heading to work.

Pregnancy: Week 35

Sleep: What is that?

Gender: Team Green

Name: Rachel for a girl, Ryan for a boy…middle names are still in the works. I know this deserves it own post, but, let’s be honest, it probably won’t happen.

Feeling: Like a baby could fall out of me at any moment.

Health: Very good. Blood pressure is great and I have more energy then I have had in a while.

Movement: Baby is cray cray. The movement, while amazing, is absolutely astounding. I have never seen my belly move Ike this is two other pregnancies.

Belly: Okay, it is huge. But, I found out on Thursday that the baby is HUGE-8 pound 2 ounces and 19 inches long already. This is no joke. The doctor even started discussing early induction and c-section which I am okay with.

Next Appointment: June 5 for a heartbeat check and then June 12 for another growth ultrasound and to see what my options are. If I make it all the way to June 26 everyone in the world will be surprised.
